MOTIV® Inline Buffer Formulation

Single-Use Inline Buffer Formulation System

Product Overview

Single-Use Inline Buffer Formulation System

The single-use design of the MOTIV inline buffer system streamlines buffer production by removing the need for CIP/ SIP between batches. This results in direct savings on time, labor, and reduced water and chemical consumption. When paired with OCELOT™ System Control, MOTIV SU represents a prime choice for both operational efficiency and highly accurate buffer formulation.

Publications and More

What type of tubing is used?

The tubing up to the backpressure regulator is designed with braided silicone to handle high pressure and improve performance in pinch valves and mixing. Downstream of the backpressure regulator, non-braided silicone tubing is used since high pressure is no longer required.

How do the tube segments connect to each other and to the machine itself?

The internal and external connections use CPC G-series aseptic connectors with wetted surfaces made of polycarbonate and platinum-cured silicone, rated for 4 bar pressure. Tri-clamp adapters are available separately but note that using these adapters will compromise aseptic operation.

What type of valves control the flow in MOTIV SU?

The proportional pinch valves – made by Acro – have servo motors which make them ideally suited for the very fine control that is necessary for the blending using tubing as the valve.

How does the pump/mixer work in MOTIV SU?

The pump/mixer is magnetically levitated, leaving room between the rotor and housing, causing it to spin very fast, recirculating the fluid within the pump many times before it leaves. The mixing effect is magnified by controlled backpressure inside the pump.

What type of valves are on the outlet side of the MOTIV SU?

The outlet valves are single-use sterile access valves, providing true sweep-ability.

Which flowmeters are used in the MOTIV SU?

The MOTIV SU uses main flowmeters with ±1% accuracy and a support flowmeter with ±3% accuracy, which is turbine-based and used during purging.

What is the purpose of the backpressure regulator in MOTIV SU?

The backpressure regulator maintains a constant pressure drop across the total flow control valve for predictable starting positions and control. It also creates backpressure in the pump/mixer to promote mixing.

What is the calibration process for the pH/Cond flow cell in MOTIV SU?

The pH/Cond flow cell includes a factory-calibrated conductivity cell. The pH probe is calibrated separately and inserted into the tube segment. Calibration data is transferred to the MOTIV SU transmitter during installation.
